End of 2009 - and remembering Obama's wonderful victory

Posted by Alex at 01:42 AM on December 29, 2008
OK - I haven't written in my blog for a year it seems, not since last Christmas.

In this new year the USA has done what we in Australia did in 2007, boot out their old conservative government and put in one that suits the 21st century.  But, as always with America, they did it BIG.  Not just a progressive president who cares for all sections of society, but a BLACK president.

WHO HOO!  That is just mind-blowing, it is truly AWESOME.

WELL DONE to all of you out there who were able to vote (meaning, those of us who do not live in the US are not able to vote for the President of the world).

It is so exciting to see what will happen now.

I have chosen, from his wonderful Victory speech, this fantastic quote.  Something you could never image GWBush (or John Howard) saying.

It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.

Barack Obama - Victory Speech - Nov 4, 2008.

Here's to the United States!  It has become a place we can respect again.
