OK - I haven't written in my blog for a year it seems, not since last Christmas. In this new year the USA has done what we in Australia did in 2007, boot out their old conservative government and put in one that suits the 21st century. But, as always with America, they did it BIG. Not just a progressive president who cares for all sections of society, but a BLACK president.WHO HOO! That is just mind-blowing, it is truly AWESOME.WELL DONE to all of you out there who were able to vote (meaning, those of us who do not live in the US are not able to vote for the President of the world). It is so exciting to see what will happen now.I have chosen, from his wonderful Victory speech, this fantastic quote. Something you could never image GWBush (or John Howard) saying.
It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.
Barack Obama - Victory Speech - Nov 4, 2008.
Merry Christmas, Happy Saturnalia, Yuletide, etc... to you all.I'm a bit late with this, I know - sorry. And thanks to you all who are in this group and spend some time reading my stories. I really appreciate your appreciation. I hope next year I may give you more stories.I've had a hard time this year with my Dad's ill health and him ultimately passing away. I've also been struggling with a new job which has been a major challenge to me.I wish you all the best for the new year - an election year in the US - let's hope it's as successful as the election in Australia was :-)CheersAlex
I'm sick today. I have some lung infection. To the best of my knowledge, I've never had a lung infection before. It reminds me of my dad. He had plenty of them before he died. he'd lay in hospital heaving under the oxygen mask, totally helpless, nothing he could do to get better. he'd been healthy all his life, but death of course, comes after illness. In order to die, unless one is injured in some way, then in order to die, one must get ill - one has to go through the agony of illness in order to die.So now I'm sick and I'm frightened of the hospital and their incompetence. But hopefully the doc will simply give me a magic pill (antibiotic) and I'll get better. At least now we have a Labor government.Alex
